Final Exams in EAP III

Hello my classmates in EAP III,

Today is Friday Dec, 07, 2007 and we have our writing proficiency exam at 2:00pm. I hope everyone got a chance to review the grammar and writing EAP III books for today and still we have plenty of time to do another review. Anyway I just wanted to say do not be scared and don’t panic because this is exactly same as our assignment and we have lots of time to finish our essays. We just need to focus and try to remember all the positive points that Scott has taught us in this semester, that’s all. Next, everyone needs to keep themselves calm and relax in order to write better because if any of you start panicking it will definitely affect on other students and the atmosphere of the exam’s room. I hope everybody can finish their essays on time without any problems and be ready to spend the weekends to study for Reading exam on Monday. Again, even the reading exam doesn’t seem to be that hard. Remember the activity that Scott gave us in class yesterday and he said the final exam will be very similar to this and the level if difficulty will be exactly the same. Therefore, there is no need to be worried about the Reading exam as well. We all are going to be fine and pass this course successfully.

Good Luck in Exams… Ghazal.

EAP III & Blogging

Hi Everybody,

Today we had our final presentation, which was very interesting and everyone mostly did a very good job. The most fun part was having a pot lot party and I really enjoyed trying Japanese and Chinese food this afternoon especially the Haruna’s dumplings. I should thank Scott for buying pizza for everyone, It was very nice of you, and in general thank you all the EAP III students for making the Thursday evening fun and unforgettable. I will definitely miss every single of you guys, and I hope everyone stay in touch via email or phone especially throughout our blogs. This whole blogging idea is very neat and interesting, and it also has a variety of good influences in our English language. For instance, it helps us to improve our writing skills, grammar, spelling, word forms, and even pronunciation. It also has other kind of positive points, such as it helps us to keep in touch and receive much different news from around world. I have read Wei’s blog and figured out that she is leaving this course to go back to China and visit her family and then attend in an American university. It was kind of sad news, however, at least we all got a chance to say goodbye to her and also wish her luck and happiness. I would definitely keep blogging here and try to be in touch with you guys. Let’s everybody gives comments to each other even if none of you guys are interested in writing blogs in here.

I wish everybody the best and success….

Love,
Ghazal.

Final Exams

Hi Everybody,

Today, Scott gave us the official time and date for our final exams. I do not know how you guys feel about this but I am pretty scared and nervous. I hope everyone in our class receives god marks in finals and we all pass this semester. Anyway, I would like to share some information that I recently find out regarding job positions in Calgary with you. Yesterday, I was just browsing the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun’s local classified sections for job opening in Calgary. Do you want to know what I found? Yes, that’s right. There are more than 19,146 available jobs only in Calgary. According to one article that I read a while ago, this means each person resides in Calgary is able to change his or her job every five minutes. This situation has positive and negative results on society. The good and positive effect is that people live in Calgary are going to have more stability and they will be more comfortable with their job statue instead of having stress and being worried about loosing their jobs. However, there is always a negative influence on society. For instance, the number of people who are immigrating to Calgary from other cities, provinces, and even other countries is growing everyday. These people are desperately looking for a job in this city and finally, finding a job in Calgary is the only reason that has forced them to come to Calgary. The population is growing and after that people are going to face with lack of accommodations and lots of traffic. This kind of situation makes the government’s job more difficult in order to fix this issue. Hopefully, governors and people who are responsible will finally find a solution to solve this problem.

Lets Save Calgary…

The colours of the four Seasons

Hi Everyone,

Today is Tuesday and the fourth day of December, It is around 5:41pm and I am sitting in front of my computer. I feel very down and this weather makes me so upset. I wish I could fly and leave this planet for ever but it is not possible. Any let’s talk about happy stuff. For example, talking about Christmas or New Year would be nice and exciting. It is very interesting how white is everything in Calgary like: All the buildings, trees, and even the roads. I am amazed that how God create special beauty in every season and every single of them has a pleasant feature. Each person in the world normally picks one season as his or her favourite and connects that season to his or her personality. Several books have been published around the world written by Chinese and East Indian authors and they are based on the four season. These books mostly describe the relationship between humans’ personality and nature and how seasons make influence on people. I personally think these books have a very fun and different subject and they can be very inspiring. Even some of these books talk about the variety of the colours in the nature, such as green in the summer, white in the winter, and red or yellow in the fall. Many people believe in these theories and some don’t and I believe them somehow, not completely though.

How about you????????????????

Life & Me

Hi Guys,

This weather makes me so sad and I have no idea why I have such a feeling. I usually spent more time at home doing nothing and this makes me feel down. “I FEEL BLUE.” I suddenly decided to write something on my blog about life and how much it worth. I moved to Calgary almost four years ago and during these past four years I learnt a lot about the world that we are living in and the people who are we dealing with everyday. I worked in variety of different places along other people with different attitudes. It was not always good and peaceful sometimes I had to fight for my rights, of course politely, and other times I had to let it go and do not waste my time for it. Do you want to know why? Because people are different, some of them are very nice and friendly and if they feel you are better than them, they do not try to destroy you and some other ones are completely the opposite of the first group. They are normally mean and not vary kind and friendly. They usually do not help you to become successful or better than them. However, there is always one way for everyone to get along with other people in different type and that is being honest and does the job in a best way. I am personally a very kind type of person who likes to do everything for my friends and coworkers and I hope I could be helpful for them.

Stay in Touch Everyone.

Traffic & Accidents

Hello Everybody,

Winter is here in Calgary again. Today is the first day of December and as everyone can see the whole city of Calgary is white and cold. Snowing started since this morning and it is still continuing. The temperature is between -17 to -18 degree and the sky is all white and fuggy. It is really a horrible weather for driving and I advice everyone who drive to be careful and make sure you guys have all the safety features in your vehicles, such as booster cable, extra gloves, additional batteries, and emergency phone numbers. There are a few rules for driving in Calgary. For instance, people normally change their summer tires to the winter type, check their vehicles’ oil breaks and break pads, and keep more than usual distance with the rear and front cars in order to have a safe and less dangerous drive. This morning I witnessed an accident around Signal hill, which was very hard and it made a lot of damage to three cars. This accident happened due to not considering enough space between two vehicles and suddenly the light turned red and those drivers couldn’t completely control their vehicles. At the end, by calling 911 after the accident happened and having all different types of emergency cars, such as police cars, fire department vehicles, and ambulance coming to that area, you guys imagine how the road looked like and how many people got stock in traffic just because one person did not pay attention to the rules.

EVERYONE DRIVE SAFE …

Teacher’s Day in Iran

Hello Everyone,

I would like to share one of the nicest experiences that I have in my life with you guys, which it goes back to when I was studying at school in Iran. In the culture that I grew up with teachers have special status in the society and everybody, children to elders, constantly respect them. Also, due to the teachers’ educational and cultural level, they always are considered as a top class people in my country. In addition, the Persian religion, which is mostly Islam, keeps reminding the people residing in this country to have a special respect for the teachers and as a matter of fact, this is written in our holy book, Quran. In order to appreciate teachers and instructors, government of Iran decided to choose a specific day, May 02, in the name of teachers. Everyone all around Iran celebrate this event and it is concidered as a national holiday. All students from elementary school till university would give their teachers gifts as a remembrance and these gifts could be thank you letters or bunch of flowers. Most importantly, the whole purposes of giving gifts to the teacher are all about showing students’ appreciation and expressing their respects to their teachers. In our tradition, the teaching career is been called one of the prophets’ duties and whoever choose this job is following an honorable career. I personally think that this kind of mentality and public behavior in order to appreciate the teachers are very positive and generous. It would be nice if we could have such an event in Canada to celebrate the teachers’ day. I strongly believe that being a teacher is a very difficult and stressful job. However, at the same time it could be very interesting and fun. I wish the best for all the teachers in the world especially our instructors in EAP program, who are helping us to learn the English language as best as possible.

THANK YOU ALL.

Christmass Shopping & Cold Weather

Hi everybody,

This evening I was kind of upset and home sick so I decided to go out and do some Christmas shopping, which is always exciting and interesting. Surprisingly, the prices are still a bit high for students like us and I think we should wait till boxing week if any of you have plans to do a big shopping. However, I needed to purchase something other than that I would go crazy. Ha Ha Ha... Let me tell you another funny story about my poppy. He was trained to go out once at 7:30am every morning and one more time at 6pm in the evening. Considering the Calgary's weather, which is getting colder and colder everyday this kind of schedule (early in the mornings and late in the evenings) does not work for him due to his size and ability to stand in cold weather. The other day, right after the first snow I opened the backyard door for him and it usually takes him about 7 to 10 minutes to come back inside. I was waiting for him for almost 20 minutes then I became worried about him. I went out side and I saw him shaking with no movement. He was looking at me but he was not able to actually move and walk to me. Therefore, I ran and brought him inside. He was almost half frozen and I was almost going to kill my own poppy due to lack of experience. Any way I am changing his routine at the moment, which is a very difficult job to do and it requires a lot of patient. God helps me...

Cheers,
Ghazal.

Educational Trip with Scott

Hi everybody,
Tomorrow we all are going to visit the art museum, Glenbow Museum, located in down town Calgary in order to discover more about Canadian artists especially, Emily Carr who is one of the most famous female artists in Canada. Hopefully, everyone is going to have a wonderful time at the Glenbow museum and enjoy this educational trip with our instructor, Mr. Scott Douglas and other students in EAP III. As everyone remember, Scot made us to sign an agreement that we are not going to sue the University of Calgary, which was kind of funny and interesting. This would simply show that some student have sued the university before for millions of dollars. The other subject that I really want to talk about is being on time for tomorrow. Scott asked us to be there at 11am sharp, which it means he does not want us to be late and being us late, makes him very disappointed. This attitude from Scott is completely acceptable because we should probably meet each other at the door first and pay for our tickets and then perhaps Scott is going to give us some instructions about what we are going to do as an activity. So let’s all be on time and make him really happy and proud. Just a reminder tickets are $11.00 at the door of the museum due to Scott’s negotiation with their office department and please bring exact change because nobody actually can help you with that.
Ha Ha Ha Ha ….
See you all on Friday @ 11am SHARP

Dec, 21, 2012

Hello Everyone,

I was watching TV the other day and there was an advertise of documentary program on Discovery channel called "The End of The World". I became very curios to watch this program and I actually did. It was very interesting and unbelievably sad. The program was very strong and made a lot of influences on me. The scientists and researchers could bring variety of different evidences in order to support their beliefs. For instance, they talked about Mayan's calendar, which is one of the most significant calendars in history of humans for over 5000 years. Mayans for such a long time believed that on Dec, 21, 2012 there is going to be a huge change in whole world including the Earth due to the situation of the Stars, Sun, Moon, and the Earth. Amazingly, this calendar is made by Mayans around 5000 years ago and they could calculate all these years with their calendar. This historical reality would clearly show how strong and sufficient is this calendar. In history, Mayans are called one the most civilized people on the Earth not only at their own time but even at this time. They were the first people who built pyramids way more advanced than the pyramids in Egypt. The other evidence that scientists used in this program to support their ideas were the very famous Chinese book called “I Ching”, which talks about Dec, 21, 2012 as the end of the world exactly same as Mayans. The third evidence that they used on this program was the Michel de Nostradamus’s book, which is very famous in most nations regarding the future events and history shows that a lot of events that he brought in his book actually happened. For example, world war I, world war II, and September, 11, 2002. The last evidence that is more based on scientific reasons was Global Warming, which most of the people in the world are familiar with it. However, it seems that people in reality are not willing to take an action to solve this problem and it is becoming worst everyday. After watching this program, I suddenly started thinking with myself that even if the world does not end by this date it would end one day and more importantly my life will end one day. Nobody stays alive forever. Therefore, I should take the most and best advantages of my life and try to become successful and useful for my family, friends, and other people in the world. I wish everybody the best and hopefully, everybody start thinking about some of the facts that are existed and they can not be avoid.

Good Luck,
Ghazal.

Niki, my Cute Poppy

Hey everybody,

I just wanted to show you my poppy, Niki. Look, how cute he is. He is a seven months old York Shire Terrier and completely trained. He is so smart and also stubborn. I love him so much. From the first day that bought him and I brought him home, he never ever cried at all and he is been always very happy boy. He loves his toys that I bought for him especially the yellow cat one "Poor this cat." The colour of his hair is changing everyday from black to silver and tan. There is one thing that is so special about him and that is his ears. He has the cutest and biggest ears compare to other yorkies and these ears make him look so much different than others. He has another specific attitute, which is only for him and I have never seen it in other dogs. He loves to seat on my bed and watch the door very carefully, it sounds silly but he loves it.

Good Poppy...

Assignments & EAP Program

Hi everyone,

It is around 9:45 am on Sunday October 28, 2007 and I am sitting in front of my computer finishing my assignment such as book report, essey #4, attending lecture #2.
There are lots to do and I do not feel ok. I hate winter, this season makes me extremely depress and unhappy. How about you guys?
Anyway let's change the subject. Enough talking about winter and snow. It is almost five weeks left to the end of this semester and it is obvious that we all needed to pass this program in order to be more successfull at university and in our degree programs. Most of assignments in EAP are examples of how we should do our projects in credit courses and how exactly professors grade them in UofC. For instance, the idea of attending lecture is brilliant and technically all of us will have the opportunity to experience the lecture environment by doing this assignment. On the other hand, sending emails to the related professor would definitely show us how to communicate in academic environment and how should we respond in some situations.
Hopefully, everybody take good advantages of being in this class and become more and more succesfull every day and also I wish you guys luck and all the best througout this level. Keep studying hard and do not think about the results because as all of you know we are not studying for marks we are learning to gain more knowledge and information.

See you in class.

EAP III & Instructors

Hi everyone,

The EAP III program has started on Sep, 17, 07 and we are already in week three. All the courses, especially the writing and grammar, are becoming more and more difficult as we go forward. However, we should always remember that we are all capable for this level, that’s why we are here. Therefore, let's go for it, do not be scared. Definitely we all are going to pass this semester very successfully. Do not ever forget our goal in this term, which is we are all going to make Scott proud of us and I am sure he will be so happy by the end of this course if we all pass. Do you know why? Because he really does not want to see us for another three months again. We get boring for him. Am I right or wrong? HaHaHa... Any way, I thought it would be nice to right a few word regarding our future success in this course, and I honestly wish all the best for my every single classmates in this class. There is another subject that I would like to share with everyone and that is regarding our Listening and Speaking instructor. I believe there is going to be some changes, Scott will not stay as our L & S teacher and Dr. Sangupta is looking to hire a qualified instructor for us. Good Luck Dr. Sangupta! Therefore, we are going to have Scott as our Writing and Grammar and Reading instructor for EAP III level, which is very nice and I think he is more than qualified for this position. His style of teaching is perfect and most of the student learn a lot from him.

Thank you Scott…

Cheers,
Ghazal.

Drugs & Society's Health

Hello my classmates,

Today is saturday and the weather is just perfect, isn't it? let me share some new information with everyone about what is happening around us?
This morning I was reading the persian newspaper, which it publishes every month in Calgary. There was a column about the Canadian usage of drugs and the dangers of this behaviours that directley threat the culture and lives in Canada. Unfortunately, according to the research on youths and teenagers' habits and life style in NorthAmerica, the use of drug in these groups of people in Canada is three percent more than the rest of the world. Hopefully, this news has changed a lot of people's beliefs and also has forced them to think deeply to find the causes of
this unpleasant disaster. As a matter of fact, parents and social workers will pay more attention to this serious problem and they will provide sufficient help to the young crowed in order to decrease this indecent statistics. Therefore, they are able to save thousands of lives and bring this numbers down.
Finally, as an university student should advise everybody to keep their eyes wide open and to take care of the society's health as an important part of this world. At the end, it is necessary to think of what is really happening to the manners and ethical behaviours here in NorthAmerica also to find the solution.

Goodluck for everyone and see you in class,
Ghazal.

This Term

Hi everyone,

It was a real pleasure to have ms. Regina Shannon as our instructur in EAP II. Unfortunately, as we all heart from ms. Gordon, she is not able to lecture at this level anymore. However, It was an honour to finish this course along with her. As one of her student, I would like to appreciate her for all the helps and supervision that she made. Also I hope to meet her for fall semester in a perfect condition. On the other hand, I guess it would be nice to send her a thank you email and show her how much we actually care about her.

With Best Regards,
Ghazal.
